Outstanding Business in Philanthropy - Winston-Salem
Nominated by IFB Solutions
Shelco has set a standard as an outstanding corporate partner in the Triad community. The company is passionate about contributing a portion of their profits to their local communities, where it is needed the most. As one of the largest and highly respected privately owned contractor companies in the Southeast, Shelco’s footprint in North Carolina is quite large. Shelco takes their mission of “building excellence for our customers, employees and communities” to heart and remains highly active with multiple local organizations in Winston-Salem, Charlotte, and Raleigh, as well as with state and national organizations.
Shelco’s philanthropic impact in the Triad is substantial and continuously growing. From investing in the COVID-19 Response Fund for Forsyth County to supporting Love Out Loud, donating to the Mask the City and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, the People First Fund at IFB Solutions, and Down Syndrome Association of Greater Winston-Salem, the company truly leads by example in spreading their philanthropy in the Triad. In addition to supporting over 35 nonprofit organizations with generous contributions throughout the year, Shelco finds other ways to give back, whether that is building new homes for deserving families with Habitat for Humanity or giving generous Christmas gifts while playing “Secret Santa” to a local family in need through The Parenting PATH.
Shelco’s leadership and ownership encourage management’s participation on not-for-profit boards in the community. Their impact is truly profound. Shelco’s philanthropic work extends through their involvement in those not-for-profits where they also volunteer and invest, be that through generous direct program support, sponsoring fundraising events, completing construction projects at cost or simply helping a fellow community member.
Shelco provides a variety of gift-in-kind services to organizations it partners with and encourages their business partners in specifics projects to follow their lead. Shelco challenges their subcontractors and vendors to provide reduced fees and/or gifts-in-kind on other projects to nonprofit organizations it works with.
"Philanthropy to Shelco simply means recognizing the needs of those in our community and sharing the resources we have to lessen their burden."
