National Philanthropy Day 2020
Each Year, AFP Triad Chapter recognizes individuals, businesses and organizations from across the Triad for their philanthropic contributions which “Change the Triad with a Giving Heart.” Nominations are accepted each year for nine categories. For a description of each award, see below.
To maintain health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, our planned in-person celebration at Grandover Resort has been postponed. We look forward to returning to Grandover next year. Our 2020 National Philanthropy Celebration will be celebrated online with special videos and photos of our honorees. Please join us “virtually” during the week of Thanksgiving to celebrate philanthropy in the Triad!
Sponsorship opportunities are available. As an official sponsor, you have the opportunity to recognize a special individual or couple from your organization as a “Spirit of Philanthropy” Honoree. Honorees will be recognized on the 2020 National Philanthropy Day webpage and in full page newspaper ads in the Winston-Salem Journal, the Greensboro News & Record, and the High Point Enterprise. National Philanthropy Day Awards

Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser
This award honors an individual or family who demonstrates outstanding leadership and skills in coordinating and motivating groups of donors and volunteers for fundraising projects in our community, making a measurable impact on community philanthropy.
Outstanding Fundraising Professional
This award honors an outstanding individual fundraising professional whose leadership exemplifies ethical and effective professional practice and whose performance enhances the philanthropic resources of the organization for which he or she serves. Nominees demonstrate a strong commitment to philanthropy, volunteerism, and continuing education, and have actively worked as a professional fundraiser for at least 10 years prior to nomination. Preference will be given to nominees who are current members of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Outstanding Business in Philanthropy
This award honors a business — regardless of size — that demonstrates outstanding community commitment through philanthropic support and the encouragement and motivation of others, both inside and outside of the corporation, to take leadership roles in philanthropic and community involvement. Please note: businesses with corporate-funded foundations must apply through the Outstanding Philanthropic Organization nomination process.
Outstanding Philanthropic Organization
This award honors a civic organization, corporate or private foundation, grant-making service organization, donor circle, or affinity group that demonstrates an outstanding philanthropic commitment to the nonprofit organization(s) or larger community it supports. This organization should be a role model of philanthropic activity serving many segments of the community.
Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy
This award recognizes an individual (under the age 21) or youth organization where a majority of members and/or leaders are under the age 21 and whose philanthropic efforts (through fundraising and direct financial support, development of charitable programs, volunteering, and/or community leadership) demonstrate the spirit of philanthropy and set an example for others to follow. The nominee demonstrates an outstanding commitment to community service.
Outstanding Emerging Philanthropist
This award recognizes an individual (age 22-40) or organization where a majority of members and/or leaders are between ages of 22 and 40, for exceptional generosity and civic responsibility by demonstrating significant philanthropic contributions within the larger community. The nominee’s generosity and leadership should motivate and engage others.
AFP NC Triad Chapter's IDEA Award
The AFP NC Triad Chapter’s IDEA Award recognizes an individual, organization or program that is committed to the ideals of inclusion, diversity, equity and access in philanthropic giving. Through personal or organizational leadership and commitment, the recipient recognizes the unique customs, culture, history and legacy of diversity in the Triad and creates opportunities to reflect that diversity in supporting the work of area non-profits.
Outstanding Philanthropists in Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point areas
These awards honor individuals or families for exceptional generosity and civic responsibility
by demonstrating significant philanthropic contributions within our Triad communities. The nominees’ generosity and leadership should motivate and engage others. Outstanding Philanthropists will be selected from the Greensboro area, Winston-Salem area, and High Point areas.
Lifetime Achievement in Philanthropy
If you are interested in nominating someone for this award, please complete the appropriate Outstanding Philanthropist nomination form listed above, supplementing the nomination with information on the lifetime of exemplary service to our community. This award honors an individual or family for exceptional generosity and civic responsibility by demonstrating significant philanthropic contributions within the larger community. The nominee’s generosity and leadership should motivate and engage others. The selection for this award is based upon nominations received in the three Outstanding Philanthropist categories.
