Ed Lewis has nearly 30 years of distinguished experience in performing arts management and philanthropic fundraising. He serves as Vice Chancellor for Advancement at the UNC School of the Arts, completing the $65 million “Powering Creativity” campaign that exceeded its goal. He was the Senior Director of Development for the Performing Arts at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, University of Maryland, where he participated in a campus-wide $1 billion campaign, exceeding a $35 million goal by raising over $42 million. He’s also served as the Director of Development for the Cathedral Choral Society in Washington, DC, where he successfully raised the most contributed revenue in the Society’s 63-year history.
Possibly even more impactful than these impressive positions and major campaign accomplishments are Ed’s demonstrated results in building the long-term capacity for sustainable philanthropy for each of these organizations. Ed is known for his calm and pleasant demeanor and underlying drive and commitment to “give his all” to each institution he has served.
Throughout his career, Ed exceeded major campaign goals and he has also built teams with great rapport and motivated staff who not only meet goals, but enjoy working together. In addition to his work, Ed is a member of Rotary and serves on the board of Salemtowne. He is a past Board Member of the Foundation for the Advancement of Music and Education, a speaker/presenter for Cultural Capital, member of CASE, and past president of the Board of Trustees of Mitchellville Community School of the Arts, and the American String Teachers Association. Ed is a talented violist, serving in many orchestras over the years, and he has won several awards for his viola talent.
"Philanthropy to me is the inclination of individuals or institutions to promote the welfare of others through their own resources of time, talent and/or finances. As a fundraising professional, I am honored to serve a cause that I am fiercely passionate about, UNCSA, and to joyfully collaborate with those who wish to elevate and support this remarkable institution for all our stakeholders and the greater community."
